As it turns out, a psychology degree is pretty useless.
A Psychiatrist is basically a Psychologist that can prescribe meds and requires med schooling on top of their curriculae. A Psychologist is basically someone who practices psychology and requires state licensure.
State licensure in most states require a PhD in Psychology. So that bachelor’s or associate’s or even a Master’s Degree isn’t enough to start working as a Psychologist. Board Certification and yearly or annum payments to some private organization semi-regulated by the state to practice. It’s a pay to play sort of pyramid scheme.
So even if you have a degree in Psychology, you can’t just go around helping people.
On top of that, University or College for Psychology will indoctrinate you not to help people but deal with the complicated and ever changing behemoth of medical and billing system. It’s retarded out there.
Most people with a Associates to a Masters degree can get shitty jobs like HR or Social Case worker or can become a Psychologist assistant with thousands of plus of work hours and case work before they can actually do their own practice.
If you genuinely want to help people change their lives, just be a life coach, zero barrier for entry, unregulated as shit, and your ability to actually help people will be based on actual proof of work, which leads to referrals. So if you ruin lives, then you won’t get more clients, it is actually an effective way for the market to weed out shitty people instead of spending 8 to 10 years to find out that you suck at Psychology and helping people.
Also, the starting pay for a Psychologist is from 60k to 120k, and that’s after 8 years or so of schooling. So, it’s not the biggest bang for your buck if you care about money or if you care about effectively and efficiently helping people.
Funny Story,
I knew of a Psychologist that got their Master’s and was working under supervision to practice psychology.
He had a client who was generally happy and making good money as a brick mason.
Then he thought to himself, Psychology sucks, then quit his job to go be a brick mason. He’s making six figures running a Masonry business that now runs itself after pouring sweat equity in six or so years. He’s got it made.
So if you ever see people with a Psychology degree, chances are they are working a trade skill or some HR ding hole somewhere. Arguably being Forklift Certified or operating a Jack Hammer might be more in line with a Psychology degree.
Arguably Psychology is worse than an Liberal Arts Degree majoring in something like Art. Because atleast you get to fuck around and not try with a Liberal Arts Degree. With Psychology, you’ll have to read remotely irrelevant case studies.
If you really want to learn psychology, just look in the mirror and learn more about ‘your self’. The self is all you need to know about, and if you pay attention, you can far exceed what most people pay for in class. Paying for college to have others tell you things that you can look up on the internet is sort of retarded.
In Closing,
Psychology degree is a scam unless you’re hell bent on being a doctored Psychologist that’s recognized by the current society and Western Medicine and School of thought.
If you want to help people, there are other ways that are more effective.
If you want money, there are other ways that are more effective.
If you want any jobs that a psychologist degree can get outside of psychologist, then get a better degree like business or accounting or anthropology or some shit. Other degrees can open the door to the same jobs outside of psychology.
Even if you get your degree, there’s no guarantee that you’ll have work, and you’ll have to give white papers or clinical reports along with monthly to annual payments to various organizations and continual training that’s more of a check in the box for most people. Sourcing clients and marketing is also a big thing that a lot of private practices don’t have either.
In the future, there may be a chance for the curriculum and for the Western Education system to revamp itself to be more effective and efficient, both from a helping pragmatic and ethical sense as well as a monetary investment.
Just be a life coach, unregulated, fast, cheap, and easy.
In Short, Psychology degree below a PhD doesn’t mean you can practice psychology, and even with a PhD, there’s other hoops to jump through.
