China has a Great Firewall that protects themselves and the world from cross traffic information and other unregulated and unsavory practices. This is referred to as quite literally the Great Firewall, an homage to their Great Wall of China;
This fire wall is a national security concern as well as data privacy and can be used for positive movements like control of information, or negative motives, like control of information. It’s a double edged sword.
In any case, the rise of TikTok Refugees in January 2025 to Chinese Social Media App XHS or Rednote, allowed both US Citizens and Chinese Citizens to compare their standards of living.
The short and simple is, the Chinese standard of model is advanced and better. It’s like if China was compared to the US, it would be somewhat equivalent to South Korea compared to North Korea. Essentially the United States was fed a bunch of propaganda that China was poor and bad, while China was fed a bunch of propaganda that the United States was rich and wealthy and made out to be heaven.
So with the migration of US citizens to reveal the systemic issues and mass quantities of our stats, it turns out, the Chinese are having a generally better quality of life.
Here’s a random post to illustrate some points;

The potential fall
We’re essentially getting a World level Berlin Wall event in the digital space. It’s not clear if China is really Communist or Socialist, or if the United States is a Republic or Capitalist Corporatists with some Cronyism. It’s clear that some weird mish mash is applicable depending on whom you talk to.
Any hoot, it’s Berlin Wall 2.0, but digitally and with ‘Communist’ China and ‘Democracy’ US (instead of one nation split in half, it’s on the world stage).
South China Morning post claims that China is going to try and pilot free global internet (in select locations) to broadcast the wealth and status of Chinese Netizens, by allowing apps like Facebook and other Western Media to be allowed (or something, I didn’t read it because I’m lazier than you);
This sentiment has existed before and pilots were proposed in early 2013, but since the 2025 Tiktok refugee movement, the timing to strike when the iron hot seems to be now.
I know for a fact, during my Shanghai visit in circa 2017 that Facebook was banned. So, this pilot program wasn’t a success back then. But it seems to gather CCP support to spread soft power in 2025, so it might be more supported nowadays in efforts for a culture victory.
A more porous wall, posturing the culture and soft power of China’s economic and financial situations for their average citizens to shine. In these times, we’ll see if China takes the lead in Global powers by posturing itself with this move, or if the US manages to somehow fuck it up even more than it already has.
In Closing
If digital mediums are unlocked and release allowing free access of information, then we can have better communication and trade agreements, while also collectivizing and shitting on eachother globally like we already do.
This is more of a win for humanity fostering more unity, as long as nothing insane or crazy happens, but uh, there’s no safe bets.
It is what it is, we’ll see how it plays out in a year or so
