The Dialectic of Third Rome vs. New Rome

Everyone in the West loves Rome for various reasons, they either like it for it’s history, it’s leader’s, it’s cultures, and whatnot. There is a fair amount of criticism but no one denies the might and power and expanse of Rome.

Unless you’re the Golden Horde of the Mongol Empire, then I guess you could arguably shit talk Rome all day as they stay huddled in their walls.

But that aside, There are interesting parallels with Rome and Two of the Modern Power Structures, Russia and The US.

Third Rome

In a Tucker Carlson Interview with Vladimir Putin, there was a long three hour or so recanting of the Russian perspective and orthodoxy. It was rather charming for those that want historical re-envisionments and reconciliation.

Honestly that interview paints it pretty clearly that Russia sees itself as the de-facto lineage of Rome.

Putin often refers to Constantinople as the spiritual and cultural source of Russian Orthodoxy, which was adopted in 988 CE by Prince Vladimir of Kievan Rus. This event, known as the Christianization of Kievan Rus, ties Russian identity to Byzantine traditions.

The Second Rome being the Byzantine Empire, and the First Rome being, well, Rome.

The Great Schism dividing the Roman Catholic Church occurred around 1054 AD during the time of Byzantine Empire.

The dialogue establishes that Russia sees itself as a political Imperial lineage as well as a spiritual successor to the Holy Roman Empire with the Eastern Orthodoxy.

Their flag was literally a two headed eagle, symbolizing the east and the west before they got infected by modern communistic thinking and their ‘New Republic’.

Honestly, the double headed eagle is dope as fuck. And the Modern Federation draws inspiration from the 1917 Russian Republic. Who else was a Republic? Rome.

New Rome

The US is new Rome arguably, with a lot of western ideals and philosophy from Roman Emperors and even the Proto-Roman ideals of Greek Philosophers. Western thinking is western.

It has a Republic, it has a senate, it has an electoral system akin to Rome. It’s the ‘New Republic’ as others claim.

We like Capitalism which is a modernized version of Mercantilism which is modernized from Roman ideas of trade as a State practice in some cases (of course other people would argue against that because monarchies and shit).

Hollywood as the cultural epicenter of exporting Western Ideologies through film, is based on the name ‘Hollywood’ referring to the Holly Tree or ‘Holy tree’, and draws roots (pun) from some form of evolution of Roman ideals. Theatre being a Roman sort of Venetian-type circus Amphitheater for the people, before it got widely adapted in the medieval ages. So Movies are arguably the ‘New Roman Theater’.

Massive road and infrastructure networks resemble the idea of ‘All Roads Lead to Rome’ Adage which depicts that Roads are a vital part of government law and order and institutions. (This idea isn’t profoundly new nowadays, but was very profound during Roman Times to be a central focus of development. Again other thoughts of people would argue the king’s road or royal road and shit).

There are parallels with the idea of ‘Manifest Destiny’ and the Imperial expansion or conquest.

Lots of Christian influence, and Western Roman Catholic in the United States.

Our Senate chambers and even Abe Lincoln hold Roman Symbology of a Fasces, which derives the term Fascist.

Government buildings typically have pillars, domes, and other designs dedicated or inspired by Roman-Greco styles. The Obelisk resembles the Washington Monument.

Most every Government Organization or Agency has Latin words. Even on our money, there’s latin words. America spoke English, yet we use Latin on many of our things. E Pluribus Unum (“Out of Many, One”) and Annuit Coeptis (“He Favors Our Undertakings”) “Novus ordo seclorum” is a Latin phrase that translates to “a new order of the ages”.

There are some theories that the statue of Liberty is paying homage to either Lucifer or Apollo, in conspiratorial thinking, or more traditionally the Roman Goddess Libertas who is blindfolded with the scales. That symbology is pretty clear, conspiracies aside.

The Supreme Court building has a Frieze, or sort of relief sculpture depicting Roman Figures like Justinian and Julius Caesar as well as being a Greco-Roman Design;

Eagles. Freedom. Murica. The Eagle is a symbol of Rome.

America, Fuck Yea

Either the US loves Rome that they ‘cosplay’ it like an Anime Convention, or they are genuinely believing themselves to be both the New Republic and New Rome.

The Dialectic

Both world powers are vying for Supremacy in their own way.

Russia sees itself as the Spiritual successor to Rome, maintaining the Orthodoxy Christianity after the schism and using that as a basis for Spiritual groundwork to maintain their own order and harmony. Ontop of seeing their imperialism and Roman Dynasty of the Byzantine Empire establish the political structures of Rome. Building on the groundwork of the Byzantine Empire and claiming both spiritual and historical orthodoxy. (Because what idiot would claim unorthodoxy? Ortho-means truth and dox means words. They claim to have the true word or logos).

So Russia see’s itself as a spiritual and political mantle of continuation from 2nd Rome.

The United States sees itself as the political advancement or successor of the Republic. As the US has senators and a Republic based electoral system as well as military might and global reach. Pax Romana lives on in the ideals of how well Americans are treated in terms of lawfare, visas, and other nations. Basing it’s powers based on some John Locke idea of individual freedoms and individual sovereignty.

That’s partly why the collectivist ideals of Marxism and Communism were more adapted to the Collective nature of Russian society during the USSR. And also a reason why Americans are adamant against communism and socialism as a form of collectivism during McCarthyism age and even today (with the exception of the liberal colleges that play with the fire called political thought).

Both nations during the Cold war tried an expansive measure to spread their version of Rome. American Imperialism was branded as ‘spreading democracy’ for individual rights, and the USSR was spreading ‘communism’ as a form of collective harmony and order.

Of course, the USSR fell in 1990’s and the USSR itself has balkanized and many of those nations remain ushering more internal resolution and focusing on isolationist policies while attempting to stabilize itself structurally.

And the US along with it’s NATO gang kept spreading it’s Imperialism of Democracy to more and more nations, Libya, Iran, Syria, and many other old USSR allies or members. Resulting in the funding and provisioning in/of Ukraine during it’s conflict with Russia in today’s world.

Naturally the idea of reaching another Pax Romana would require NATO to not expand or end to preserve the current world in it’s ideas. OR in a militant Pax Romana feature, NATO would expand to include Russia but not in a pacifist way (seeing as NATO refuses to invite or accept Russia into NATO for -reasons-). In any case, peace has to be established either before or after a conflict.

Pax Romana is in essence, an idea of peace through power, a might makes right, and a carry a big stick but speak softly.

Essentially

We have two Roman Successors and arguably they’re all a part of Rome as a Legacy. Think of it like two kids fighting on behalf of their fore fathers and thinking that they’re right. A Family squabble, which draws parallels as Humanity itself is arguably a big family.

Here, a Meme depicting Rome;

And a Chinese proverb for you;

“All people are your relatives, therefore expect only trouble from them.”

As a side note

Hitler and that whole Nazi Germany thing also drew a lot of parallels on establishing themselves as the realm or empire or ‘third Reich’. Drawing many influence heavily from the Roman Empire, Holy Roman Empire, Catholicism, and more. So in a way, Nazi Germany was an alternate 3rd Rome. So, World War 2 was also a fight between Rome, Rome, and Rome.

(The first Reich was The Holy Roman Empire, the second being the German Empire. So yea, the third is obviously a grand child of Rome)

Again, the meme;

Of course this is an oversimplification and ideologically everyone is opposed in so many different ways that political coexistence isn’t necessarily available (even if the Germans wanted the US to be allies). It’s still technically true, that Rome vs. Rome vs. Rome was a thing.

You can also Replace ‘Rome’ with ‘Humanity’ and you’d be right

And an even further side note could argue that the European Union which is lead by Germany is the fourth Reich, and that China has adopted Western Imperialism and not a Chinese Dynasty, making their system more akin to a Fourth Rome -but this is still very fringe thinking amongst even fringe thinkers. So, yea. It’s confusing for sure.

And the fact that we call Europe and the USA ‘The West’ and Russia as ‘The East’. The West of what? The East of What? Rome (The Berlin wall is no longer a thing). Yet we still refer things as ‘the east’ and ‘the west’. (Even the ‘middle east’ is considered east.)

It’s culture, it’s identity, everyone wants to be Rome. It’s the hot thing to be since 0 AD. AD is also Latin for Anno Domini, the ‘year of our lord’ or ‘Master’ or ‘Dominus’. Eh, Latin, Rome, pish posh.

In Closing

It used to be fringe conspiratorial talk to consider or call the US a ‘new Rome’. Even if it’s blatantly in your face, most people throughout 1900’s and early 2000’s would say that calling US Rome 2.0 was conspiratorial or a pet theory. Kinda like when people talked shit about Monsanto Poisoning the crops or how they’re putting chemicals in the water that turn the frogs gay. Yea- Oh how times have changed.

I’m merely commenting on an observation and insight into the current geopolitical state of affairs. Ideally everyone’s deep state would play nicely with eachother. But that might be too big of a leap to achieve. Maybe, maybe not.

This dialectic between the Modern institutions of Rome doesn’t include the dialectic of the Middle East, Africa, China, or the other ongoing various conversations in this cacophony we call ‘earth’. Everyone is having a say in steering our shared ship of humanity.

And as always, a dialectic when language isn’t used, leads to silence like the cold war, or aggression like real wars. Arguably in all of civilized society, if we were one human civilization, then all wars are civil wars.

That’s also a good reminder to say that I am the Chairman of the Anti-Political Political Party and my message sponsors the idea that Politics is inherently secular and a roundabout discussion of humans arguing human things. Sure there’s utility and pragmatics involved, but inherently we’re all fighting ourselves in confusion. Most disagreements come from miscommunication or misunderstanding, and if we truly understood the other side, we wouldn’t have so much conflict. But of course, we don’t truly understand, and we have many barriers and thoughts blocking ourselves from reaching it.

How can we understand eachother when we don’t even understand ourselves?

Maybe we’ll just become space marines in a Warhammer 40k Universe drilling holes on Mars like a Red Rising book where everyone is Rome.

It is what it is. Que sera sera.

As always;

P.S.

The Germany Nazi Salute, is from Rome, it’s the Bellamy Salute.

In the United States, before war with the Nazi’s, the pledge of allegiance used to be a Bellamy Salute and not a hand over the heart.

Also, relevant- some old school depictions of USA Ubermensch;

Point is, all versions of Rome are influenced by Roman Culture and Couture, including ideologies and religion and some other jazz. It’s in our social-epi-genetic-meta-DNA.
