Suicide nets are a band aid fix testament to brutalist society

A suicide net is installed to prevent FURTHER suicides, not to undo suicides. You can’t bring back the dead like that Jimbo.

That’s a fact.

Meaning that the mental health of those who would take a suicide through jumping off a building or bridge, would have to look for options elsewhere.

Essentially, Suicide nets are saying “don’t kill yourself here, kill yourself elsewhere” and are a testament to low mental health and not fixing major sources of the problem or issues.

Before suicide was a big thing, people would undergo warrior culture and sacrifice themselves and their lives in the heat of battle to go out a martyr or hero or some other shit.

Nowadays, people live mundane lives and are reminded constantly with ugly metal mesh nets that they shouldn’t kill themselves. . . Well atleast not there.

As a side note

Some places, Like San Francisco, spent upwards of 200 Million dollars to install suicide nets on the golden gate bridge. -And of course, the estimates doubled it;

Leading to about 3+ years of laying down netting;

Well, they’ve gone and redo some reconstruction efforts beyond the scope of simply installing nets. Imagine if your plumber decided to redo your tiles before fixing your toilet. Something like that, but more serious because safety is involved. And the bill is a fuckton.

I mean, That’s double the estimate to lay down some netting.

How do you math out that your project will need more than double it’s estimate?

That’s absurd, And-

I’m entirely uninformed as to the specifics, so I’m just being reasonable by saying the numbers are unreasonable since the information is being withheld from public disclosure even though its a publicly funded project.

I mean, an estimate is supposed to be somewhat accurate, not a ball park number. And if you low ball a quote for something, including the supplies and materials, and man power, you think the construction costs would be more than an extra twenty million?

Naah, it seems more likely the government used tax payer money to enrich private interests through a contract deal, or a private corporation is getting one over on the government and aka it’s citizens. Either or, the tax paying citizen gets fucked (cucked?) financially. Overpaying for a product not yet delivered nor rendered.

Don’t worry, there’s litigation and lawsuits, so there’s the appearance of something happening. Regardless, one of the above statements might be factual.

In Closing,

Suicide nets are more of a temporary aide, it’s not a fix, nor is it completely helping. It does help some people that regret jumping, seeing as they don’t see the nets and might have their life flash before their eyes, and are saved by the nets. A spoonful of regret being the remedy that makes them rethink their decisions and introspectively re-evaluate life to perhaps prevent suicide ideations.

Some people are saved, so it’s not nobody. Arguably, the nets are doing good. They are somewhat of an eyesore and a reminder, testifying to society death-lust ideations. For better or worse.

Atleast we’re not like the Eastern Bloc who put diving boards on bridges. That’s just NATO propaganda for ya.

Reminds me of some joke an African said, “America, you mean the land where people jump off buildings to die?” Suicide in some places are such a foreign concept that the thought of it is alien to them.

It’s almost like it’s a first world problems and people are tired of the bullshit (and/or living).
